Fish Removal - Sun City, Arizona ACI was contracted to remove fish from a 33-acre lake to prevent a large-scale fish kill. The lake was built in the early 1970's as an irrigation lake for area golf courses and a recreational lake for the residents. Recently, it was determined that the lake was leaking a significant amount of water each year. The controlling authority decided that it was time to solve the problem and took steps to make repairs to minimize water loss. Part of the process included ACI biologists moving the fish from the lake to temporary ponds on adjacent golf courses. Over the course of 12 days, ACI biologists used a combination of electrofishing and gill nets to remove over 90% of the fish biomass; an estimated 2.3 tons of fish! ACI returned later in the year to move select species back into the lake. |
