Trophy Sport Fish Management - Chama, New Mexico ACI was contracted to transform the existing water resources on this ranch into a trophy trout fishing paradise. We created new drainage systems to keep spring runoff away from the cabins (where it had obviously caused water damage in the past). We designed two small ponds near the front of the property that would allow kids and beginning fly fisherman a chance to catch some big fish. The two small ponds were joined to the large House Lake with a recirculating decorative stream. We reshaped the shorelines and protected them with emergent vegetation, rip-rap and decorative vertical rock walls. An entertainment deck was added on one shoreline, and a boat dock on another. We rebuilt the dilapidated river diversion and cleaned out the inflow ditches. Fish habitat and aeration was specially designed for the lakes to provide cover and improve lake health. But the crown jewel of the whole project was the fishable stream that we created between the two large lakes. It was designed with various riffle, run, and pool complexes that included large boulder and root wad habitats to hold fish. Rock and log weirs were designed to add character and provide even more habitat. |
