Lake Assessment - Fredericksburg, Texas Many ACI clients have a water resource that they would like to better utilize, but have a problem with aesthetics or fisheries. When these potential clients contact ACI biologists for assistance, the first thing we do is conduct a thorough assessment. This assessment not only shows the client what they currently have, but also the long-range potential of that resource. This client near Fredericksburg, Texas has a 15-acre bass/bluegill lake, but severe aquatic vegetation problems prohibited our client from accessing the lake for fishing and is unsightly for guests. The client wanted the vegetation removed and also wanted it to become a trophy bass lake. Our assessment included a complete mapping of the lake, including depth contours. We tested water quality, sampled sediments, identified and quantified aquatic vegetation, and evaluated the source of water. Based on the lake history and vision of the client, we made recommendations to control the aquatic vegetation, increase the average depth of the lake, and implement an intensive trophy largemouth bass management program. Our client chose the program that would best fit his needs and now enjoys some of the best private trophy bass fishing in the state. |
