Fish Removal - Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico

Prior to a complex renovation, ACI biologists were contracted to remove a large portion of the "rough fish" biomass from this clients lakes. Preliminary sampling showed a large number of gizzard and threadfin shad, and common carp, as well as sportfish species such as largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. ACI biologists recommended that the shad and carp be removed to reduce the biomass in the lakes and create more room for the trout and catfish that would stocked in the new two-tier fishery.

Using electrofishing and gill nets, ACI biologists removed over 7,700 fish in an eight day period. The majority of biomass removed was shad, carp, and bluegill, all with an estimated weight of in excess of 2 tons.

The lakes now support a thriving catfish (summer) and trout (winter) public fishery.
