Fisheries & Lake Management

Fish Removal

Fish populations often become unbalanced due to overharvest of predators or accidental introduction of undesirable species. In some cases, populations deteriorate to a point where the most cost effective program of restoring a viable fishery is to start over with a balanced stocking. Fish toxicants (piscides) can be used to quickly and effectively eradicate fish populations. Piscides are restricted use pesticides and require a licensed aquatic pesticide applicator to apply them. All of ACI's biologists are certified applicants and will provide professional application of the products and subsequent fish clean-up.

In many cases, our clients do not wish to eradicate all fish and prefer a more selective removal method than fish toxicants. In those cases, our biologists will develop a sampling scheme utilizing a combination of gill nets, seines, and electrofishing equipment to effectively remove and relocate a majority of the unwanted fish species.
